A modern building. Everyone is present. Waiting for an experiment to start. A woman in a hospital bed is enjoying the paradisiacal atmosphere outside. Until she is rolled inside. Two nurses start a treatment in which injections are combined with language.

The cursor acts as a flashlight, so the text that comes and goes in the night is more readable. But some sentences flee the light, trying to escape ... The poem ‘Ondertussen in Taylor, Nebraska’ (‘Meanwhile in Taylor, Nebraka’) from the dutch poet Frans Budé tells about a meeting between a man and a woman after bar cloting time in a dark street in Taylor. Graphic designer Dionne Lausberg plays with the words, the light in the night and an early bird in the morning.
You See Everyone Go By is the result of a four year project in which Hans Kloos made a portrait of the Amsterdam district Westerpark by writing poems about particular places and people in the district. It was originally published as a CD-ROM that opened a full screen window with a map of Westerpark with the choice between gedichten (poems) and stemmen (voices). Clicking on one of these would open a new map of the district with dots appearing all over the map. The dots in their turn would lead to either the text or an animation of a poem or to a recording of the poem, read not by the author, but by someone with a direct connection to the poem. Je ziet hier iedereen voorbijkomen is not about the author, but about a place and its people.
The work is in entirely in Dutch. Although on some occasions a poem has been translated into English, these translations are not included here.
Je ziet hier iedereen voorbijkomen is het resultaat van een vierjarig project waarin Hans Kloos een portret van het Amsterdamse stadsdeel Westerpark maakte door gedichten te schrijven over specifieke plekken en mensen in het stadsdeel. Dit werk verscheen oorspronkelijk als een cd-rom die het scherm automatisch vulde met een kaart van Westerpark die de keuze bood tussengedichten en stemmen. Klikken op een van de twee leidde tot een nieuwe kaart waarop allemaal stippen verschenen. Achter die stippen waren de tekst of een animatie van de gedichten te vinden, of een opname van een gedicht, die echter niet is ingesproken door de dichter, maar door iemand die op de een of andere manier met het gedicht is verbonden. Je ziet hier iedereen voorbijkomen gaat niet over de auteur, maar over een plek en de mensen die er wonen.

The zip archive has to be unzipped fully and saved to a folder, and not just opened. 2. Once the archive is unzipped you open the folder called ‘wp’. In this folder there is a file called AppleMac(.swf). Both Apple and Windows users should open this file by clicking on it. This will launch the application.
Interactive text with letters lying down about a she that is lying down and picked up by a you who carries her off and lays her down somewhere else, and she rises, walks back and lies down etc.The words will only be readable if the custom hand cursor rights the letters and so the reader/viewer must assume a role similar to the one of the you in the text.

The European eLiterature Collection is a project developed as part of The eLiterature Research Project. The aim of the collection is to provide an essential tool to assist in formalizing e-Literature in Europe.
In this respect, the European eLiterature Collection Board of Editors, evaluates, reviews, and publishes on the web works of Electronic Literature by European authors.
The hyperlinked title on the homepage of the author activates a Flash movie showing handwriting appearing against a greyish background -– not only the writing, but also the empty screen is reminiscent of paper. The most important difference with Oosterhoff’s paper work is the fact that this digital work is time-based, and plays like a movie. The text is not a finished object, it is actually being written as we watch it, or so it seems. There are no images in the work and no hyperlinks. The digital or internet context is thus not activated in any way, and the ‘permeability’ (Tabbi 2004: 215) of reading in an electronic environment is thus reduced as much as possible.
One by one the lines of the poem appear, and we witness the letters traced on the ‘paper’ in the natural rhythm of the writing hand. When there is a verse of four lines (sometimes two), it disappears, and after a short pause, a new verse commences.
Like all Oosterhoff's works, this is a minimal piece, where all we see is the writing of the verselines, in realtime. This rhythm provokes exactly what the title says: unrest. What we end up reading is a dialogue about 'they' (cows?) that are 'still restless back there'. The fact that the work is in the author's hand creates a tension between the iterability of the electronic work and the singularity of the moment of writing the piece. Thus questions on reproduction, presence and subjectivity are foregrounded.
