In many of these stories, which range in length from several words to over 20 pages, Davis approaches her subject - be it a situation, an emotion, a state of bring - with almost scientific interest. Their titles reflect this: The Fish, The Mouse, Mothers, What an Old Woman Will Wear, Lost Things. These are meticulous dissections, intricate descriptions of, say, what it means to be right, or of betrayal, or the relationship of a mother and daughter. But somehow she evokes more, she pulls the reader into the stories - and they are stories - and her endings, whether it be after one paragraph or many pages, are breathtaking.

Abstract (in English)

Why do modern poets quote from dictionaries in their poems? How has the tape recorder changed the poet's voice? What has shopping to do with Gertrude Stein's aesthetics? These and other questions form the core of Ghostlier Demarcations, a study of modern poetry as a material medium. One of today's most respected critics of twentieth-century poetry and poetics, Michael Davidson argues that literary materiality has been dominated by an ideology of modernism, based on the ideal of the autonomous work of art, which has hindered our ability to read poetry as a socially critical medium. By focusing on writing as a palimpsest involving numerous layers of materiality--from the holograph manuscript to the printed book--Davidson exposes modern poetry's engagement with larger historical forces. The palimpsest that results is less a poem than an arrested stage of writing in whose layers can be discerned ghostly traces of other texts.

Electronic Literature and Digital Art share many processes, themes, creative and theoretical guidelines. In this sense, I developed a critical framework that could resist to a hyperdisciplinary analysis and include one of the characteristics of this sharing pattern: the transfer and transformation processes. In order to recognize these processes I have done an approach of the transduction concept that could perform a theoretical migration on these aspects: the transducer function. Thus, the transducer function appears in the critical analysis of the works by Mark Z. Danielewski, Stuart Moulthrop, R. Luke DuBois and André Sier. The selected works are representative of the following genres: novel, hyperfiction, net.art and digital installation, drawing on phenomena and concerns resulting from the creative production within the digital culture. In this research I have enhanced mechanisms, patterns, languages and common grounds: authorship, user, cybertext, surface, hypertext, infoduct, interactivity, pixel, algorithm, code, programming, network, software and data. A literatura electrónica e a arte digital partilham vários processos, temas, linhas criativas e referentes teóricos. Neste sentido, chegou-se a um enquadramento teórico que pudesse resistir a uma análise hiperdisciplinar e englobar uma das características desta partilha: os processos de transferência e transformação. Para reconhecer estes processos recorreu-se ao conceito de transdução para efectuar uma migração teórica capaz de suportar essas valências: a função transdutora. Deste modo, a função transdutora surge na crítica das obras de Mark Z. Danielewski, Stuart Moulthrop, R. Luke DuBois e André Sier. As obras seleccionadas são representativas dos seguintes géneros: romance, hiperficção, net.art e instalação digital, extraindo fenómenos e preocupações resultantes da produção criativa no âmbito da cultura digital. Nesta investigação foram realçados mecanismos, padrões, linguagens e motivos comuns: autoria, utilizador, cibertexto, superfície, hipertexto, infoduto, interactividade, pixel, algoritmo, código, programação, rede, software e dados.
