Navega entre la permutación constante alrededor de tres palabras que solo se diferencian en una letra y cuyos significados varían completamente según los artículos que las unen. Se han dispuesto de forma fantasmal todas las variaciones conocidas de la unión entre estas tres palabras para que el lector explore y descubra los variantes. El poema abre un proceso de escritura normalmente oculto al lector y lo pone a su disposición desmitificándolo.

Abstract (in English)

We will discuss the issue of the platformization of culture from a Latin-American perspective and decolonial thinking. Platforms strive on the automated algorithmic administration of access and reproduction of creative works (text, sound, video, o code-based). The common trait of current platform culture is the maximization of profit by means of garnering data and attention in order to capture more attention (and more data). In this context, is there any space for pursuing artistic digital activism and decolonial e-lit? The presentations in this panel will try to answer this question. The panel will be Spanish-English based in a sort of tentative of linguistic decolonization of e-lit field:

Agustín Berti: The Country and the Platform, or The Issue of NanofundiaThe issue of latifundia and the consolidation of vast productive land owned by a very reduced minority of wealthy elites has been one of the distinctive traits of lasting inequalities in Latin-American countries. This has seemingly nothing to do with digital culture, and yet this push forward the concept of nanofundia as a continuation of the reprimarization of production in the developing world and the digital extractivism of platform economy described by Pasquinelli and Joler. If there is any chance of reverting this situation in terms of decolonial geopolitics of electronic literature, the struggles will be about national and regional digital infraestructures and the local regulations over the globalized attention economies.

Anahí Re: It Will Be Difficult or Won’t Be. Challenges of Latin-American E-Lit.Platforms that nowadays enable large scale production and distribution of third generation e-lit (Flores), and even this kind of e-lit itself, promote a specific temporality. Doing so they guarantee the permanence of users in social media. What is at stake is clearly our “available attention” (Stiegler). Following Stiegler’s organological perspective, this presentation will focus on why “the difficult” (Tisselli/Torres) is, and should always be, an emancipatory alternative within Latin American poetic industries.

Claudia Kozak: Occupy the Platforms. Scope and Limitations of Decolonial Contemporary E-Lit.This presentation will analyze cases of Latin American e-lit that particularly engage to deconstruct and/or occupy contemporary platform culture. Being these cases either strictly experimental e-lit based on “the difficult” (Tisselli/ Torres), or digital activism in indigenous languages or even attempts of decolonial mixtures between experimentalism and third-generation platform e-lit, there is an opening for discussing how e-lit might temporarily occupy contemporary platforms without being (completely) absorbed by their agenda.

Leonardo Solaas: The Pull of The Banal: Digital Systems and Programmed FreedomInternet platforms are based on a perfect formula: they provide us with the endless satisfaction of choosing, while they get to know all about us and better anticipate our tastes and desires. They create for us dazzling worlds of perfect visibility, while their own logic recedes into the unreachable depths of an ever-blacker box. We will analyze how the space of possibilities generated by digital systems deploys a field of power under the guise of freedom, and how users can adopt three positions with regards to it: integration, rebellion, or critique.

Big Data is a term used to describe, in general, the gathering of vast amounts of digital information and its subsequent processing, through sophisticated computational techniques, with the purpose of obtaining knowledge. In the case of Big Data, the poem, the term refers to the massive collection of personal information communicated online and its processing for commercial purposes, especially for-profit endeavors related to a persuasion achieved through the detailed knowledge of individuals, a persuasion aimed to be invisible. The poem is not situated in the present but in the near future, when the collection of personal information will be achieved by individual activities online, by the contributions carried out by other people and by sensors that are part of the Internet of things. The personal data, aggregated, will be processed at very high speeds with the assistance of artificial intelligence. The combination between the massive collection of personal data and its subsequent statistical processing, with that emphasis on inferential statistics to achieve persuasive objectives, will lead to a terrible reality. In general, the logic of statistics will be used to define human existence individually and socially in a deterministic way. Big Data's resulting knowledge, the poem suggests, is equivalent to the omniscience generally attributed to deities.

While the advertising industry heralds the use of digital communication technologies as a form of individual empowerment and self-efficacy, people’s interactions with their devices are proving to also have significant negative effects on society. The poem is situated in the near future, when the collection of personal information will be achieved by individual activities online, by the contributions carried out by other people, and through sensors that are part of the Internet of Things. The personal data, aggregated, will be processed at very high speeds with the assistance of artificial intelligence. As it happens in this generative video poem, unique pieces of audiovisual media will be created on-the-fly to achieve persuasive objectives based on individual profiles. The combination between the massive collection of personal data and its subsequent statistical processing, aimed at achieving persuasive objectives, will push us towards a terrible reality. Ultimately, the logic of statistics will be used to define human existence individually and socially in a deterministic way and, unfortunately, it will be guided mostly by commercial interests.

Big Data es un término en inglés usado para describir, en general, la recolección de vastas cantidades de información digital y su posterior procesamiento, mediante sofisticadas técnicas computacionales, con el propósito de obtener un determinado conocimiento.

En Big Data, el poema, se alude a la recopilación masiva de información personal comunicada en línea y a su procesamiento con fines comerciales, especialmente fines de lucro, relacionados con la persuasión a través de un conocimiento detallado de los individuos, persuasión que se pretende invisible.

El poema no está situado en el presente sino en un futuro cercano, cuando la recolección de información personal sea realizada por actividades individuales, por la contribución llevada a cabo por otras personas y por sensores que son parte del Internet de la cosas. Los datos personales, agregados, serán procesados a grandes velocidades con la asistencia de inteligencia artificial. La combinación entre la recolección masiva de datos personales y su posterior procesamiento estadístico, con énfasis en la estadística inferencial para lograr objetivos persuasivos, nos conducirá a una realidad terrible. En general, se usará la lógica de la estadística para definir la existencia humana individual y social de forma determinista. El conocimiento resultante, como sugiere el poema, es equivalente a la omnisciencia generalmente atribuida a las deidades.

The Bug is a browser demo presented as a single page of HTML, with CSS, JavaScript, and a Base64 encoded image all part of that one page. It is a trilingual digital poem, with sound, that computationally glitches itself in different ways, transforming the background image, the text, and the music.

Robopoem@s consist of five insect-like robots whose legs and bodies are engraved with the seven parts of a poem@ (“poema” in Spanish) written from the robot’s point of view in bilingual format (my original Spanish with English translations by Kristin Dykstra). Voice activation, micro-mp3 players, and response to sensors (reactive to obstacles) allow these quadrupeds to interact with humans and with each other, emphasizing the existential issues addressed in the poem. The final segment of the poem, number VII, re-phrases the biblical pronouncement on the creation of humans, as perceived by the robot: “According to your likeness / my Image.” With this statement, the notion of creation is reformulated and bent by the power of electronics, ultimately questioning its binary foundations.

"Código de barras" (Barcodes) was part of a collective exhibition titled "The Only Bush I Trust is my Own". The use of a barcode reader (an iSight) allowed the visitor in the gallery to reveal political and poetic messages against domestic violence, imperialism, consumerism, and informatic control.

La persona visitando la galería donde fue expuesta esta serie de trabajos revelaba mensajes políticos y poéticos mediante un lector de códigos de barras. El trabajo se presenta contra las "barras" del imperialismo, del consumismo, y del control informático, así como denuncia la violencia de género.
