In this essay I intend to study Pedro Barbosa’s Sintext (automatic text generator) and the Portuguese writer E.M. de Melo e Castro’s poems as a hypertextual work, seeking a possible comparison between their literary algorithmic characteristics and a dialectics of interlinked reading between man and machine.

'Sintext,' an "automatic text synthesizer," or text generator, was first developed in DOS by Pedro Barbosa in collaboration with Abílio Cavalheiro, who wrote the program in C++.
